Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa has been the subject of growing speculation after Arne Slot admitted the Italian was “not happy” about being omitted from the club’s Champions League squad.
The 26-year-old joined Liverpool amid high expectations, but has struggled to secure a regular role in Slot’s plans. Last season, and at the start of this campaign, Chiesa was restricted to limited minutes in the Premier League. His absence from European competition only fuelled concerns about his future at Anfield.
Slot, however, has underlined that Chiesa is showing clear signs of improvement. The Dutchman described him as “a completely different player” compared to last year, pointing to his sharper fitness and stronger competitiveness after a full pre-season. The Liverpool manager has also emphasised the winger’s commitment in training and his determination to fight for opportunities despite the setback.
Even so, Chiesa’s position remains uncertain. His frustration over playing time has sparked rumours of interest from Serie A, with several Italian clubs — including Inter Milan, Napoli and Roma — reportedly monitoring his situation. While no transfer has materialised, the prospect of a return to Italy continues to hang over his Liverpool career.
For now, Chiesa remains part of Slot’s squad, hoping his resurgence in form can earn him more consistent minutes. Whether he reclaims a central role at Anfield or seeks a move away could depend on how much faith Slot shows in him over the coming months.
