Chelsea coach Mauricio Pochettino believes that his team’s struggle to find their rhythm this season can be attributed to the extensive changes made during the summer. Despite significant spending following co-owner Todd Boehly’s takeover in 2022, Chelsea has found themselves in a challenging position in the Premier League, currently occupying the 11th spot with just three wins from their first 10 matches, including a recent 2-0 defeat at home to Brentford.
The club made substantial investments during the summer transfer window, acquiring players like Moises Caicedo, Nicolas Jackson, Christopher Nkunku, Romeo Lavia, Cole Palmer, and Axel Disasi, among others. Pochettino expressed his concerns about the team’s ability to blend cohesively, given the influx of new faces, making it a youthful yet unsettled squad. Speaking at a press conference, he emphasized the impact of numerous changes on team dynamics: “At the moment, I think we are a young team, a young team means too many changes in the summer because of the circumstances and we are suffering – sometimes good and bad results, but performances are consistent.”
Additionally, Pochettino urged the club’s owners to reflect on the “mistakes” made and emphasized the importance of learning from these experiences. He stressed the need for resilience and unity within the club, advocating for a balanced approach amid challenges: “You have to be quiet and be strong. And not to lose your balance, because it is easy to blame or say something that is going to affect other people and lead to division in the club. The important thing is to trust the ideas, the judgment, and analysis of why certain things have not happened. To help the organization to be better and to improve, and not to make the same mistakes again. The most important thing is to learn from the mistakes.”
