Arsenal has received advice from club legend Emanuel Petit to reconsider their interest in Ousmane Dembele for the January transfer window. Petit, a former Arsenal player, believes that the Paris Saint-Germain forward wouldn’t be a suitable addition to the team due to his struggles at the Parc des Princes. Despite making 13 appearances for PSG since his summer move from Barcelona, Dembele has yet to find the back of the net.
Petit expressed his concerns about Dembele’s performance, stating, “Dembele is struggling as he’s under massive pressure at PSG. He wastes chances on many occasions and he’s not scoring goals. It’s been a difficult start for him, so I can’t say Dembele for Arsenal.”
Instead of Dembele, Petit endorsed the idea of Arsenal pursuing Ivan Toney, emphasizing the English forward’s impressive track record with Brentford and the value he could bring to the Gunners. Petit praised Toney’s contributions to Brentford’s success, highlighting his goals, mentality, and behavior. He suggested that Toney, despite the potential high cost, would be a worthwhile investment for Arsenal.
Brentford has set a hefty price tag of £80 million ($97 million) for Toney, making his acquisition a costly proposition for interested clubs. As Arsenal contemplates their options, they are set to face Newcastle in their upcoming match, while Dembele will be hoping to find his scoring form as PSG travels to Italy to face AC Milan in the Champions League.
