Liverpool have expressed keen interest in acquiring Borussia Dortmund’s talented Dutch winger, Donyell Malen. Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager, has been particularly impressed by Malen’s recent performances. Sport Bild reports suggest that Klopp views the Dutchman as a potential successor to Mohamed Salah. To secure Malen’s services, Dortmund is reportedly seeking a fee of at least €60 million (£52m/$63m), aiming to recoup their initial investment. Malen was signed by Dortmund in 2021 for €30 million (£26m/$32m) as a replacement for Jadon Sancho, who moved to Manchester United.
Looking at the broader context, Malen’s first season in the Bundesliga was less impressive, but he showed significant improvement in the following year, scoring nine goals. In the current season, he has already found the net four times. It is speculated that Liverpool’s interest in Malen could materialize only if Mohamed Salah decides to part ways with the team during the summer transfer window in 2024.
