Manchester City Eyes Reece James as Potential Successor to Kyle Walker

Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, are eyeing Chelsea’s Reece James as a potential heir to the veteran right-back position currently held by Kyle Walker. The Independent reports that City is keen on securing James, considering the English international as a viable successor to Walker. This interest is not new, as James has been on City’s radar for a while, with discussions even arising last summer.

Kyle Walker, who celebrated his 33rd birthday in May, continues to be a crucial player for Pep Guardiola’s side and extended his contract in September, committing until 2026. Despite Walker’s continued prominence, City sees Reece James as a long-term option for the right-back position.

In a broader context, Real Madrid is also said to be interested in James, with manager Carlo Ancelotti considering him a potential successor to 31-year-old Dani Carvajal. However, James, who was named the new captain of Chelsea following Cesar Azpilicueta’s departure, has not shown any inclination to leave the club.

The upcoming clash between Chelsea and Manchester City in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge is set to feature a face-off between James and Walker on Sunday.
