Manchester United Loans Mason Greenwood to Getafe Amidst Controversy

Mason Greenwood has embarked on a season-long loan journey with Getafe, departing from Manchester United. Last week, United officially announced Greenwood’s departure from Old Trafford, following an internal investigation that spanned six months. This investigation stemmed from charges brought against the player in 2022, including attempted rape, domestic violence, and controlling behavior. However, the Crown Prosecution Service later discontinued its case, citing a lack of realistic prospects for prosecution.

Throughout the summer, Greenwood had attracted interest from clubs in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Turkey. Notably, Lazio reportedly chose not to pursue the striker’s signing on deadline day.

Instead, Greenwood is now set to join Getafe on loan, with the Spanish club confirming his arrival on Friday. Notably, Greenwood has not participated in a competitive match since January 2022, when he featured in a 1-0 Premier League victory over West Ham.

United issued a statement upon confirming the deal, expressing that the move allows Greenwood to begin rebuilding his career away from Manchester United. The club also pledged its ongoing support to Mason and his family during this transitional period.
