However, the 2023-24 season under Erik ten Hag has not started on a strong note for United, with only six points earned from their first five Premier League matches. Doubts about the club’s overall direction, both on and off the pitch, persist, aggravated by a prolonged takeover saga behind the scenes. Gary Neville, a former Red Devils defender, expressed his concerns to Sky Sports, highlighting the challenges hindering United’s progress:
“I don’t know any Manchester United fan with a sensible mind who is primarily upset with Erik ten Hag. What they truly desire is a change in ownership, seeking stability and a squad of dedicated players. It’s not that the players lack commitment, but I’m questioning their overall quality. That’s my main concern.
“There are individuals in the squad capable of stepping up, but considering the substantial investments made by Manchester United, one would expect a higher level of performance. They’ve brought in Onana, Hojlund, and Mount, but does this significantly improve their squad? Hojlund certainly shows promise, but he seems burdened with carrying the team at times. We’ll have to wait and see, but there are legitimate concerns from fans and within the club itself. The current situation is far from ideal and calls for stabilization.”
