Roma considering a January move for Chelsea’s Chalobah.

Roma is reportedly exploring the possibility of acquiring Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah in the January transfer window. The Serie A side is grappling with a defensive crisis due to injuries sidelining key players like Chris Smalling, Diego Llorente, and Marash Kumbulla.

La Gazzetta dello Sport has revealed that Roma is actively seeking a new defender, and Chalobah has emerged as a viable option. Chelsea is open to offloading Chalobah during the winter market as he doesn’t feature in Mauricio Pochettino’s plans. The Chelsea academy graduate is also keen on a move, having come close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer, a deal that ultimately fell through.

However, Chalobah isn’t the sole defender on Roma’s radar. The club is contemplating reuniting Jose Mourinho with Tottenham’s Eric Dier, who has yet to make an appearance under Ange Postecoglou this season. Additionally, Red Bull Salzburg’s Oumar Solet and veteran center-back Jerome Boateng are being considered after Bayern withdrew from a potential deal with Boateng. For their upcoming match against Monza, Roma might deploy the unconventional pairing of defensive midfielders Bryan Cristante and Leandro Paredes in the center-back positions due to their injury-stricken defense.
