Liverpool is leading the race to sign Goncalo Inacio

Liverpool has emerged as the frontrunners in the race to sign Sporting CP’s talented Portuguese defender Goncalo Inacio, valued at €49 million (£43m/$52m). Inacio’s consistent performances in the Primeira Liga have caught the eye of several Premier League clubs. Liverpool had inquired about him during the summer, aiming to secure long-term replacements for the aging Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk. Manchester United had also expressed interest, but their pursuit ended due to Harry Maguire’s continued presence at Old Trafford. Recent reports from Sport Bild suggest that Manchester United has withdrawn from the competition, leaving Liverpool as the prime contenders.

Jurgen Klopp is a keen admirer of Inacio, considering him the ideal candidate to bolster the defense. Inacio’s left-footed finesse, ball composure, and potential to succeed Van Dijk align perfectly with Liverpool’s future plans. Liverpool sent scouts to observe Inacio’s performance for Portugal against Bosnia, where he played alongside experienced center-back Ruben Dias. The match, although uneventful for Inacio, ended in a dominant victory for his team, with all five goals scored in the first half.

Despite Inacio’s contract with Sporting running until 2027, Liverpool might be enticed to make a move due to his €49 million (£43m/$52m) release clause.
