Reports indicate that Manchester United winger Antony is not set to return to Brazil anytime soon, dispelling recent rumors suggesting a loan move back to his homeland. Speculation arose following United’s supposed interest in signing Gabriel Barbosa from Flamengo in the January transfer window, with Antony potentially being part of the deal.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, such a scenario is not on the table, and the 23-year-old player will continue his tenure with Manchester United. Antony’s form has been lackluster this season, with no goals or assists in any competition. His struggles have been attributed to a break from training after facing accusations of physical and mental abuse by his ex-girlfriend.
United’s coach, Erik ten Hag, explained that the hiatus disrupted Antony’s rhythm, requiring him to put in extra effort to regain his form. Antony, who joined United from Ajax in 2022 for a substantial £85 million ($99 million) deal, had a successful stint at Ajax, scoring 18 goals. In his debut season with United, he managed eight goals and three assists.
