Chelsea Set to Acquire Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez from Brighton for £25m

Chelsea has reportedly reached an agreement with Brighton to secure the services of goalkeeper Robert Sanchez for a fee of £25 million ($31.68). According to The Athletic, the deal has been finalized, and the Spanish shot-stopper is now set to undergo a medical examination. The move comes as Chelsea looks to strengthen their goalkeeping department following the departure of Edouard Mendy to Al Ahli. Sanchez’s arrival will add competition for the position of the current No. 1 goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Taking a broader view, Brighton has already made moves to reinforce their goalkeeping options by signing Dutchman Bart Verbruggen from Anderlecht in the summer. On the other hand, Sanchez’s status at Brighton dropped down the pecking order since March, with manager Robert de Zerbi preferring Jason Steele between the goalposts. The transfer to Stamford Bridge presents a fresh opportunity for Sanchez, breathing new life into his career.

Initially anticipated to be a one-year loan deal, the transfer will now take the form of a permanent move. Additionally, the move will reunite Sanchez with former Brighton goalkeeping coach Ben Roberts at Cobham, further adding to the familiarity and potential for success in his new venture with Chelsea.
